Oh...... Seen that happen twice & both times it was moisture damage! :(

Do a backup of the phone through PC Suite to save all the contacts, memo's, messages etc. & drop it into the nokia centre or I'll take a look at it if you want...

I've 'ressurrected' a few phones after getting wet, one being an n95 that got dropped into a pint!!

Btw, I've got one for sale if you know anyone interested...

its not moisture damage. Not sure what way the lighting is sorted behind an n95 screen but it's only at about half power. Can't remember exactly when or how it happened. Still perfectly usable, posting from it now.

Repair shop in town wanted a billion euro for it.

may know a guy who would like a phone. He'll see this anyway so, his first question will probably be how much.

    1. All nokia handsets have 24 month warranty

    2. Sounds like its the phototropic sensor (beside front camera).

That tells the phone if it's light or dark, so it knows when to use the flash & light the keypad. Try this:

Go to tools > settings > general > personalisation > display > light sensor. Move the bar all the way to the right & see if it improves...

Btw, there's no 'backlight' on the n-95, the screen is self illuminated...

Oh & give me an email address to send the full spec list & price etc of that N95 on to...

the light sensor helped a bit. More viewable now but when i push the screen a certain way it lights up properly. Its almost like every second line of pixels is being lit up. So it still looks ok but stuff definately wrong. I don't know. Not sure how old the set is i'll check later heading to work now,

Can send it to sparky77275@hotmail.com and i can pass it on

The connection from the screen to the board is EXTREMELY fiddly & fragile, it can come loose pretty easily too. Only takes a couple of mins to get at it & rule it out. If you want to give a shout over to me with it at any stage to check it for you, it's no problem (can try screen from mine to see if that cures it too).

@adventsparky If you cannot sort out a free screen repair under warranty, please let me know and I'll buzz into the repair work station next week for you.

The light sensor has made my life a whole lot easier today. Actually being able to see the screen.

Trying to find out how old the phone is now as I am not the original owner. Not sure how the warranty on it will work, especially in Clonmel. I have no way to prove to them if it is in warranty. One subject in my brain I know next to nothing about

turns out it is approx 12months old..

You don't need proof, the IMEI (serial) number of the phone tells the service centre if it's still under warranty! Sweet eh? :)

Assumed that's how it would be done. I guess I will backup etc tonight and pop into them tomorrow. They might also fix my slider rails, they feel a tad loose. It took a heavy knock with the slider up but the light is number one.

Ohhh, you didnt mention that!! Don't say a WORD to him about it getting a knock, as it's most likely the source of your screen problem! Just pray he doesn't find physical damage, that voids the warranty! Get on to ebay & get an 8gb micro sdhc memory card, works perfectly with d new firmware update. You'll only regret it afterwards if you get a smaller one...

The light was gone before the knock
